Sau Chua Library is a conceptual community project located in a remote hamlet of Sa Pa, Lao Cai, Vietnam, where access to education and information remains limited. Designed as both a library and a cultural hub, the project aims to support the local H’Mong community and nearby monastery by providing access to books, internet resources, and shared learning spaces.

Positioned on a sloped site approximately 3.4 meters above the main road, the design takes advantage of the natural terrain to create a seamless connection between infrastructure and landscape. A sequence of stepped platforms leads from the road to the adjacent school, functioning simultaneously as circulation, reading terraces, and communal gathering spaces, inspired by the terraced rice fields of the Northwest highlands.

The architecture is embedded into the land, using the existing terrain as structural boundaries to minimize visual and environmental impact. By integrating local materials and vernacular construction techniques, the project emphasizes affordability, durability, and cultural relevance.

Sau Chua Library proposes a sustainable and context-sensitive model for educational architecture in remote mountainous regions, where space, culture, and community converge.
