2026 ASIA’S BEST HOSPITALITY INTERIOR DESIGN - THE WOOD CABIN

Project Name: The Wood Cabin

Location: Chiang Rai, Thailand
Company: S.O.S Architects
Designer: S.O.S Architects
Manufacturer: Creative Design
Owner: Pimsiri Nakswasdi

The Wood Cabin is a small-scale eco-retreat in Chiang Rai that explores architecture as an extension of landscape. Designed by S.O.S Architects, the project is shaped by the surrounding mountainous terrain, with sloped roof forms abstracting the rhythm of distant ridgelines and allowing the building to visually merge with its forest context.

The design emphasizes continuity between exterior and interior, where ceiling geometries, spatial sequences, and openings are derived directly from the overall form. Carefully positioned windows and skylights frame curated views and introduce natural light, enhancing the sensory connection to the environment.

Material strategy is central to the project’s identity. Reclaimed teak shingles, timber offcuts, and end-grain wood are repurposed into façade cladding, interior surfaces, and flooring, reducing environmental impact while celebrating natural texture and imperfection.

Through its integration of form, material, and context, The Wood Cabin demonstrates a refined approach to sustainable hospitality - offering a quiet, immersive retreat that prioritizes environmental awareness, spatial clarity, and material authenticity.
